MDC’s Center for Community
Involvement and Earth Ethics Institute are partnering
together to host a college-wide professional development day
institute for
Science Technology Engineering
Math (STEM)
faculty.
Deepen STEM faculty’s understanding and usage
of service-learning
by providing enhanced, STEM-focused workshops, engaging plenary
sessions,
plus the opportunity to connect with community partners from
government and nonprofit agencies.
“Educating for Sustainable Development” theme
to provide faculty with a comprehensive understanding
of service-learning and environmental sustainability.
STEM Faculty interested in becoming an FLCC
STEM Fellow and earning $400.00 and professional development credit must
complete all 4 of the components listed below.
1. Must attend (or provide evidence of past attendance) an “Introduction
to Service-Learning” workshop
2. Attend the STEM day institute:
“Ensuring Enough, for All, Forever--Using Service-Learning in STEM
Disciplines to Educate for Sustainable Development and the Triple Bottom
Line” Friday, February 11, 2011, Wolfson Campus
3. Participate in the STEM Day of Service-Learning project, Saturday
morning, February 12, 2011
4. Develop a STEM service-learning project template and present it at
“Educating for Sustainable Development Revisited” a follow-up meeting to
the STEM Institute slated for March 2011
