Emily Penn is an explorer, educator, artist and ocean advocate,
dedicated to studying environmental challenges around the globe.

Ms. Penn will share stories of her journey from architect to explorer, as she details how she has built upon each experience to be where she is today. With a focus on solutions, Ms. Penn will highlight her most recent project, Exploring Mindsets, which brings together diverse people into common conversations about how we can create a shift in our thinking to make a positive change in the world.

Reconnecting with Earth 1: Shifting Paradigms

As participants engage in readings and discussion questions, they will share observations and reflections on our relationship to Earth, the threats of ecological imbalance, what we can do to create a paradigm shift to make lasting, impactful change, and what the role of higher education is in creating a future generation of Earth literate citizens.

Participants in this immersion will explore the natural and cultural history of the Deering Estate at Cutler.  It will include three (3) components: a tour of the Richmond Cottage and Stone House, a short hike on the Tekesta Trail, and a visit to the footpath that, near the end of the nineteenth century, became the first Cutler Road.
