During this event, students in GSELS-designated
classes present and share
with the Kendall Campus community
their research projects, artwork,
designs and models, and performance
pieces, focused on an array of
sustainability and Earth Literacy-related
topics. Join us in learning about the topics and issues
that students have explored through their Global

Sustainable Cities
Fall 2020
Campus
Learning Community
and Virtual Symposium
November 16 - 20
Sustainable Cities LibGuide
The
Sustainable Cities Campus Learning Community
takes place during the 2020-21 academic year at
Miami Dade College (MDC) Padrón and North
campuses.
Participating
faculty from both campuses will integrate
elements of United Nations Sustainable
Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and
Communities into their curricula through the
Fall and Spring terms.
MDC’s Earth
Ethics Institute (EEI) and the Institute for
Civic Engagement and Democracy (iCED) will offer
support in the form of content, programming, and
related civic engagement changemaking
opportunities for MDC students.
Both academic
terms will culminate in a symposium featuring
student projects, guest speakers, film
screenings, special events/activities, and more.
The Sustainable
Cities Campus Learning Community offers the
opportunity for faculty to employ such
high-impact pedagogies as academic
service-learning, project-based learning, and
changemaking education.
It also
offers a framework for not only the study of
sustainability but examining current events and
social issues through the lens of urban
sustainability.
Additionally,
such topics as urban design, green spaces,
poverty, transportation, and more are all “fair
game” for faculty to tackle.
MDC faculty already
participating in EEI’s Global Sustainability and
Earth Literacy Studies (GSELS) learning network
as well as implementing the Civic Action
Scorecard through iCED will find extending into
the campus learning community an easy yet
rewarding stretch.
